A learning project that blends poetry, music and artificial intelligence
Learning Italian can become an even more immersive experience when creativity, technology and collaboration come together. That’s exactly what happened in our classroom during a special activity designed by Matteo for his students: writing an original song in Italian, starting from a poetic text created by each group, and turning it into a real musical composition with the help of artificial intelligence.
Phase 1: From creative writing to poetry
The lesson began with a creative writing session. Each student group worked together to invent a poetic text. There were no strict rules to follow: the goal was to express themselves in Italian, experimenting with rhythm, imagery, sounds and layers of meaning.
The results? Intense, sincere, and surprisingly musical poems—ready to be transformed into songs.
Phase 2: Turning poetry into music with AI
After completing their texts, students used an artificial intelligence application to convert their words into music. Each group could personalize their song by selecting:
- the preferred musical genre (pop, rock, jazz, electronic…);
- the type of voice (male or female, soft or bold);
- the interpretation style (melodic, upbeat, melancholic…).
The AI generated several versions of each song, and the students chose the one that best reflected their message. This step boosted not only their comprehension of written and spoken Italian, but also their ability to evaluate, compare and make decisions collaboratively.
Phase 3: Sharing and listening in class
The final part was the most emotional: listening to the songs together. Each group presented their poetic text, explained its meaning, and shared the creative decisions made along the way. Then, everyone listened to the musical versions.
The reactions were enthusiastic—surprise at the quality of the compositions, pride in the work they had done, and lots of laughter and excitement. Students were also fascinated by the creative potential of artificial intelligence.
In line with our teaching approach, the teacher acts as a kind of director: guiding, suggesting, observing. But the real protagonists are always the students! In every activity we offer, they take the lead, collaborate, and find creative ways to use the language.
